Vasquez - Artist
It started with my father bringing home a Spider-Man
comic book that was left behind in his classroom. (He’s
a junior high teacher) After I read that comic, it was
all over. Up until then, my body of work as a 10 year
kid was almost exclusively dinosaur related. Now, a
whole new world opened up to me and I’ve been drawing
comic book influenced material since.
Professionally, I dipped my toe in the pool illustrating
self-published books in El Paso, TX, until about 2 years
ago I decided to venture outside of this safe city. With
the help of the internet I’ve worked on various covers,
pin-ups, and designs for smaller outfits on the
independent circuit.
In 2006, I had the opportunity to illustrate over 300
sketch cards for the FAMILY GUY trading cards series at
InkWorks. I also completed a 3 issue mini-series of a
fantasy title called Something Evil at Deadboy Press. In
addition, I was signed to do the art chores for an
adapted screenplay, titled the FARM that will be an
upcoming graphic novel.
2006 also saw the completion of the first anthology from
Project IV Publishing that I am proud to be a part of in
my hometown of El Paso. I illustrated the zombie tale
penned by Justin Jude Carmona, the word-smith
responsible for the Hired Gun series. The pinnacle of my
work in 2006 has to be the artwork featured in Ape
Entertainment’s U.T.F. #2 from Arch Enemy studios. It
was an honor to be working alongside Tone Rodriguez an
Eisner award nominated artist. The preview featured in
U.T.F. is of a book called NADIR created and written by
Chet Yeary that should be on the shelves sometime late
2007.
